Gathered around the Christmas table in December of 2021, our family were discussing what hobbies we had wished we'd taken up that year or in previous years gone past. It was during this topic that the idea of beekeeping was tossed into conversation as an alternative to some of the more physically demanding pastimes which Peter was occupying his time with up until then. It was clear that this was a brilliant way to create some quality time between a grandfather and grandson in the coming years.
It wasn't long after this chat that Peter and his grandson Jamie purchased their first two hives and begun to explore the new world of beekeeping, joining a local beekeeping club Waveney Beekeeping Group to learn the ropes in person and in the process really catching the bug for this new interest!
The younger of this buzzing duo (Jamie) decided his interest went further than a simple hobby and wanted to expand this pastime into the beginnings of what we now call "Gorleston Apiary" with the goal of introducing beekeeping to his community.
Since our first hives, first harvests and first season completed, we have grown into a grass roots community business focused on enriching the local knowledge and appetite for sustainable interests and products. We pride ourselves on providing free educational opportunities on beekeeping and the benefits of all insects in our ecosystem whilst also engaging with various charities, schools and artistic outreaches to bring vibrancy and inclusion into our work.
